Bearings RG and RG/A EN 1337-3

The reinforced rubber bearings RG/A are designed to withstand vertical loads up to 20,000 kN, while simultaneously allowing movements and rotations in all directions thanks to the natural deformability of rubber.
Inside the elastomer, steel plates are inserted, perfectly adhered through a vulcanization process. These plates, completely embedded in rubber, are protected from atmospheric agents and corrosion.

Depending on the bearing configuration, the allowable horizontal loads vary between 5% and 10% of the vertical load, while displacements are limited to a tangential deformation γ = 1.

For greater translations, Ronamflon bearings can be used, while for high horizontal loads, RG/A type V and V1 versions are used, which incorporate steel plate bars to transfer loads through steel-on-steel contact.

All exposed steel parts are protected with a high-solid two-component coating, tested by the Milan Polytechnic according to EN 1337-9 standard.
Depending on production volumes, each bearing undergoes rigorous quality controls, including tests on vertical stiffness, shear stiffness and adhesion between rubber and steel plate, in compliance with the EN 1337-3 standard.

RG/A bearings are supplied ready for installation and designed to ensure a service life of at least 50 years. If not installed immediately, they must be stored properly, away from moisture, heat, and dirt.
Barring exceptional events, a visual inspection every five years is sufficient to verify the integrity of the rubber and anticorrosive protection.

RG/A EN 1337-3 Bearings (Type A)

Basic bearing device composed of an S235JR steel plate vulcanized in rubber (NR).
No mechanical anchoring system to the structure is provided.

Type A:
Laminated bearing completely covered with elastomer, including only one steel reinforcement plate.

RG/A EN 1337-3 Bearings (Type B)

Basic bearing device composed of alternating layers of rubber (NR) and S235JR steel plates vulcanized in rubber.
No mechanical anchoring system to the structure is provided.

Type B:
Laminated bearing entirely covered with elastomer, with at least two steel reinforcement plates.

RG/A EN 1337-3 Bearings (Type C)

Basic bearing device composed of alternating layers of rubber (NR) and S235JR steel plates vulcanized in rubber and equipped with one (type C1) or two (type C2) external plates of adequate thickness, with holes for smooth anchor bars.
It is mainly used for cast-in-place structures to reduce the risk of slipping.
It can also be supplied with holes.

Type C:
Laminated bearing with external steel plates (profiled or prepared for fixing).
Note: the sketch shows examples of some fixing methods; other methods can be used upon agreement.

RG EN 1337-3 Bearings (Type F)

Basic bearing device made of rubber only (NR) producible in various dimensions, thicknesses, with holes and also in strips.
No mechanical anchoring system to the structure is provided.

Type F:
Simple pad bearings and strip bearings.

RG/A EN 1337-3 Bearings (Type V)

Multidirectional mobile bearing device, suitable for longitudinal and transverse movements from ±50 mm to ±100mm.
Composed of alternating layers of rubber (NR), S235JR steel plates, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and AISI 304 stainless steel, all vulcanized in rubber.
Designed to withstand higher horizontal loads compared to a standard type B bearing.

It can be used in any type of structure, with appropriate anchors and counter plates.

RG/A EN 1337-3 Bearings (Type V1)

Unidirectional mobile bearing device, suitable for longitudinal and transverse movements from ±50 mm to ±100mm. Composed of alternating layers of rubber (NR), S235JR steel plates, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and AISI 304 stainless steel, all vulcanized in rubber. Designed to withstand higher horizontal loads in the constrained direction. In the other direction, it behaves like a standard type B reinforced rubber bearing.

It can be used in any type of structure, with appropriate anchors and counter plates.
